July 11th - 1:00 pm daytime paddling event at West Beach Martin Lake.

August 1st - 9:30 pm moonlight paddling event at Horseshoe lake.

A gentle pause from the pace of everyday life. The paddling events are designed to help you slow down, have fun, reconnect to nature, and outdoor recreation. Lathrop Paddle is a Lathrop State Park and HCC collaboration. Sponsors are Local Roots and ellipteo.

There are a number of places to camp in the region close to Lathrop State Park. In addition there are hotels and Air BNB in Walsenburg and La Veta. The city of Trinidad is about 24 minutes away and there is lodging there.

Obstacle course & daytime paddle

As everyone arrives, we take time to settle in, get comfortable, and get ready to have fun on the lake. The daytime event is at “West Beach” on Martin Lake.

Water, fruit, health bars, and chips will be provided.


Things to bring

Please bring warm clothes, insect repellant, sunscreen, and life jacket. A life jacket is required to paddle on the lakes.

August 1, 2026 9:30 pm

Moonlight paddle

As everyone arrives, we take time to settle in, get comfortable, and get ready to have fun on the lake. The moonlight event is at the main boat dock/launch on the north side of Horseshoe Lake.

Please bring warm clothes, insect repellant and headlamp if you have one plus life jacket. A life jacket is required to paddle on the lakes.
